Industrial UX Designer
Industrial UX designers work on the operator interfaces, production software and digital tools that industrial companies use to run their operations. This is a specialised subset of product design — the constraints are different from consumer apps, the users work in physically demanding environments, and safety implications add a layer of responsibility that general UX work does not carry.

What the job actually involves
- 1Designing HMI screens for manufacturing equipment and SCADA systems
- 2Conducting user research with operators, maintenance technicians and shift supervisors in factory environments
- 3Working with automation engineers on HMI redesigns for new or upgraded production lines
- 4Applying industrial design standards (ISA 101) to display hierarchy and alarm design
- 5Designing MES and ERP front-ends for shop-floor workflows
- 6Prototyping in Figma and working with industrial software development teams on implementation
