Sports Technology Careers
We are a technology and design institute — not a sports management school. Our sports tracks apply the same data science, product design, engineering and marketing capabilities we teach to all industries, to the specific context of sport. Every graduate remains fully employable in mainstream tech roles. The domain is portfolio and context, not a career cage.
Scope: We work in design, data analysis, software engineering and sports marketing. We do not work in sports science, biomechanics, physiology, coaching methodology or materials science. We collaborate with institutions that do.
About Sports in India
Indian sport is undergoing a structural change. The IPL model — franchise ownership, broadcast rights, commercial sponsorship, and direct-to-fan digital relationships — has been extended to kabaddi, football, basketball, hockey and wrestling over the past decade. Each league creates demand for technology: fan platforms, analytics infrastructure, ticketing systems, broadcast data feeds, and content operations at scale.
The growth is real but concentrated. Professional sport in India remains Mumbai-and-Pune-centric for commercial and media roles, with franchise operations distributed across the country. The employer base for sports technology roles is still small compared to mainstream IT — perhaps a few hundred dedicated roles nationally — but it is growing and it draws talent from mainstream tech backgrounds. Most people who end up working in sports technology come from data science, software engineering, UX design and digital marketing backgrounds rather than sports science.
The technology stack used in Indian sports is not exotic. Sports data analysts use SQL and Power BI. Sports platform engineers use Node.js and AWS. Fan engagement teams use Salesforce and Meta Ads. The domain knowledge — understanding what a strike rate means, or how a PKL season schedule works — is learnable and valuable, but it sits on top of standard technical skills rather than replacing them.

Pune is home to franchise operations for teams in the IPL, PKL and ISL, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) headquarters in Mumbai draws analytics talent from Pune, and the Maharashtra government runs sports development programmes through which technology vendors are increasingly engaged.

Mumbai
Mumbai is the commercial capital of Indian sport — home to Star Sports / Disney+ Hotstar, Sony LIV, the BCCI, and the headquarters of most IPL franchise ownership groups. Sports media, rights, analytics platforms and fan product companies concentrate here.

Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad has emerged as a major sports city — the Narendra Modi Stadium (the world's largest cricket stadium) is here, Gujarat Titans won back-to-back IPL titles, and Gujarat Giants play PKL. The city hosts ISL matches and the Adani Group has significant sports infrastructure investments. Sports technology and fan experience roles are growing alongside the stadium and franchise operations.

Sports data analysts work at the intersection of sport and business intelligence — turning match data, commercial figures and audience numbers into decisions that coaching teams, commercial directors and broadcast partners can act on. It is a real job in India today, concentrated in Mumbai and available in smaller numbers in Pune and Bangalore.

In India this role sits within sports media companies, franchise digital teams and sports technology startups. It is an emerging role — the title varies, but the work is identifiable.
