Performance Analyst
Performance analysts work directly with coaching teams — providing the data, video clips and statistical summaries that inform team selection, tactics and individual player development. In India this role exists at professional franchise level (IPL, PKL, ISL, Pro League hockey) and increasingly in state sports academies. It is a small but real job market.

Performance analyst salaries in Indian sport are meaningfully lower than equivalent data roles in corporate sectors. Entry-level positions at state academies may be stipend-based. Professional franchise roles pay better but are few in number and highly competitive. This is a role people take for access and mission, not primarily for compensation. The analytical skills transfer fully to corporate BI and product analytics roles that pay significantly more.
What the job actually involves
- 1Tagging and coding match video in tools like Nacsport, Sportscode or Hudl
- 2Building statistical performance summaries from ball-by-ball or event data
- 3Preparing pre-match opposition analysis and post-match player reports
- 4Working directly with the head coach to understand what data they need and in what format
- 5Managing the team's data systems and ensuring data quality across a season
- 6Presenting findings to athletes — which requires communication as much as analysis
