Honest note
Entry-level sports analytics roles in India pay below equivalent corporate BI roles. The trade-off is access and portfolio — working with real match data and named franchises builds a CV that opens doors in both sports and mainstream analytics. Most analysts who start in sport move into higher-paying corporate or tech roles within 3–5 years, often using their sports portfolio as their differentiator.
What the job actually involves
- 1Pulling and cleaning data from sports APIs, internal databases or manual data entry systems
- 2Building match performance reports for coaching staff — often on a same-day turnaround after a fixture
- 3Maintaining dashboards in Power BI or Tableau for commercial and executive stakeholders
- 4Running ad hoc analyses for questions from the commercial team: how does attendance correlate with team performance, which fan segments are churning on membership
- 5Preparing data for sponsorship reports — reach, engagement, equivalent advertising value
- 6Collaborating with broadcast partners on the data they need for on-screen graphics
