Sports Career Guide
Sports Product Designer
Sports product designers work on the digital and physical products that athletes use to train, coaches use to make decisions, and fans use to follow their teams. In India this role sits within sports media companies, franchise digital teams and sports technology startups. It is an emerging role — the title varies, but the work is identifiable.

Honest note
Dedicated "sports product designer" job titles are rare in India today. Most designers in this space are hired as product designers or UX designers and assigned to sports products. Your portfolio needs to show sports-context work clearly — a ticketing flow, an athlete dashboard, a matchday companion app — rather than relying on a job title to signal the specialisation.
What the job actually involves
- 1User research with athletes, coaches or fans depending on which product surface you are working on
- 2Wireframing and prototyping in Figma for apps, dashboards or broadcast interfaces
- 3Working with engineering teams to specify interactions and design handoff
- 4Running usability tests and iterating on designs based on observed behaviour
- 5Designing for accessibility — including para-sport users where the product serves that audience
- 6Contributing to a design system used across app, web and sometimes broadcast
