Introduction to InteMap Concept
Over the years, at Felix IT Systems, we’ve had the privilege of teaching thousands of aspiring designers and product thinkers through our UI/UX and product design programs across Pune, Mumbai, Thane, and Ahmedabad.
From hands-on courses to corporate workshops, one pattern became clear:
Our students could design beautiful interfaces, build clickable prototypes, and understand users deeply—but when it came to explaining the “why” behind their decisions or connecting design to business and tech execution, many struggled.
That insight sparked the creation of IntentMap—a simple, strategic thinking framework built to help students (and teams) connect design intent with execution clarity.
Why We Created IntentMap
As educators, we saw students confidently walk through design thinking stages—empathize, ideate, prototype—but stumble when presenting their projects to peers, mentors, or mock stakeholders.
- Why did you design that feature first?
- Who is it for beyond just “users”?
- What assumptions are you making about feasibility?
- How will this product be built, tested, and improved?
They had answers—but not structure. So we built one.
IntentMap is now embedded in how we teach product thinking across our UI/UX and AI-powered design courses.
What Is IntentMap?
IntentMap is a 4-part canvas designed to help learners think strategically—beyond wireframes and workflows. It helps them articulate why they’re designing something, who it’s for, what matters most to build first, and how it should be executed in real-world contexts.
It’s especially helpful for students learning:
- UX strategy
- Product thinking
- Design for business outcomes
- Cross-functional collaboration
The 4 Learning Blocks of IntentMap
- WHY — Understanding Intent
- Why does this problem matter?
- Why now?
- Why are you (or your team) solving it?
This section helps students frame their design goals with clarity, not just creativity. It brings focus to purpose.
- WHO — Identifying Real People
- Who are the users, beneficiaries, enablers, and decision-makers?
- What do they care about?
In our classrooms, this is where students move beyond generic personas to identify real stakeholders—from end users to internal advocates.
- WHAT — Making Assumptions Visible
- What are the untested assumptions?
- What will be built first?
- What needs to be validated before scaling?
This block invites critical thinking and prioritization—two skills employers look for in UX and product graduates.
- HOW — Connecting Design to Delivery
- How will the idea be built and launched?
- How will success be measured?
- How will the team learn and iterate?
This final section turns theory into execution thinking. It’s how our students learn to think like designers and product strategists.
IntentMap as a Teaching Tool
Whether you’re a design student, instructor, or mentor, IntentMap brings structure to storytelling. Here’s how we use it at Felix IT:
- In student capstone reviews, IntentMap acts as a presentation guide.
- In group projects, it aligns team members around shared logic.
- In UX classrooms, it teaches product thinking through practice—not just lectures.
How AI Enhances IntentMap Learning
In our AI-powered courses, we integrate IntentMap with tools like:

Students learn how to use AI not to replace thinking—but to accelerate it, grounded in the IntentMap structure.
Real Classroom Example
During a recent UI/UX batch in Mumbai, a student team worked on a mobile health app. Early designs looked great, but feedback during their IntentMap review revealed a key flaw:
- The WHY wasn’t clear—they hadn’t framed the urgency of the user problem.
- The WHO block missed key internal stakeholders: doctors and family caregivers.
- Their WHAT assumptions were too broad—prompting them to rethink scope.
- The HOW helped them identify backend constraints and improve their roadmap.
By iterating through IntentMap, the team produced a tighter, clearer, and more feasible final project—earning top reviews and impressing hiring partners.
Want to Teach or Learn with IntentMap?
We’ve created downloadable versions for students, which they can use during the course.

- Notion Template – For individual learners & self-paced reflection
- Miro Template – For remote workshops & classroom facilitation
Final Thoughts
At Felix IT Systems, we believe that design education should prepare students not just to design—but to think strategically, communicate clearly, and execute confidently.
IntentMap is more than a canvas. It’s how we help learners connect their creative ideas to business logic, real users, and delivery paths.
If you’re teaching UI/UX or learning product thinking, IntentMap will guide your next big idea from inspiration to execution—with clarity.
